Chapter 21

Keith detached his lips from Esther’s and said, “Making out in the backseat makes most of me feel like I’m sev-enteen again. Except my back. It still feels fifty.”

Esther’s spine had turned to Jell-O, so she couldn’t complain.

He said, “Let’s go back to my hotel. We can order room service. And champagne. I can open that bottle you gave to Bram and Penny. I’ve still got it.”

At the mention of Bram’s name—and her weapon of opportunity—Esther stiffened.

“You don’t like champagne?” he asked.

“I love champagne,” she said. “The hotel sounds great.”

They got into the front seats and Keith sped back toward the highway. The movement gave Esther a chance to mentally clean house, putting Bram, Penny, and the wedding mess into a box, and slipping that on a high cranial shelf. She would not think of anything but Keith, this night, her own long-ignored sexuality. Tomorrow she’d face the reality she’d created, try to sort it out.

“It’s a long drive back,” he said. “I might have to pull over and attack you.”

Esther said, “Hands on wheel; eyes on the road,” and then she proceeded to give him an over-the-pants hand job for the entire drive back to Short Hares. He was splendidly erect, silent and focused on driving (as focused as possible).

They made excellent time. Esther hadn’t realized how fast Keith had been driving.

Keith zipped into the Plaza driveway. They kissed passion-ately until the valet knocked on the passenger side window and the two broke apart, guilty smiles, blushing cheeks.

Keith said, “Don’t move.”

He stepped out of the Town Car and walked around to Esther’s side. He opened her door and offered his hand. She took it, and he gallantly lifted her out of the car. Keeping a tight grip on her arm, Keith escorted her up the steps and through the hotel’s front doors as if she were as fragile as blown glass.

The full treatment. How long had it been? Women of her era had been trained to react negatively to chivalrous behavior. Esther remembered her earnest insistences to Russell that she could open her own doors and pull out her own chair. It seemed ridiculous now, to take a political stand over a show of courtesy.

Negligence had helped her see the light. She’d take any courtesy, any chivalry Keith had to offer, and she’d bask in the courtly attention.

“Now it’s your turn,” he said once they’d entered the lobby.

“My turn?” To show him chivalry? Had he been reading her mind?

He smiled mischievously and placed his hand against her dress in a strategic spot.

“Hey!” she cried, drawing glances from the concierge and a bellboy.

“In here,” he said, tugging her toward the Plaza Bar.

“Let’s go upstairs,” she said.

“I want to play with you under the table first,” he said.

He’s a perv, she thought. Although, the idea of him fiddling with her in partial view of other people made her genitals twitch.

I’m a perv, she thought. All those years of abstinence, only to learn she was kinky. Or maybe Keith brought out the kink in her, not that she had any clue it existed to be coaxed.
